Tribe Club Loyalty Points Ranking
Some Tribe Club benefits are determined by the Tribe Club Loyalty Points Ranking, which is based on our loyalty point system. Tribe Club members earn points based on a donor's annual Tribe Club gift amount, cumulative lifetime Tribe Club giving amount, and number of years giving to the Tribe Club.
» Annual Tribe Club Giving – 3 points are earned for every $1 donated to the Tribe Club annually from July 1 to June 30 of the current year.
» Cumulative Tribe Club Giving - 0.25 points are earned for every $1 donated to the Tribe Club since July 1, 1980.
» Number of Years Giving to the Tribe Club - 350 points are earned for every year you have donated to the Tribe Club since July 1, 1980.
Annual Gift to Tribe Club and Tribe Club Endowments:
~ 3 POINTS x Current Annual Donation from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.
~ These points are calculated on all current year athletic donations and pledge payments, including endowments and capital campaigns, received by the June 30 priority deadline.
Cumulative Giving:
~ .25 POINTS X Cumulative Giving to Tribe Club and/or Tribe Club Endowments since July 1, 1980.
Years Giving To Tribe Club:
~ 350 POINTS x Number of Years you made any gift amount designated to Tribe Club and/or Tribe Club Endowments since July 1, 1980.
Example A: Jefferson Tribe’70 gave $4,000 to an Unrestricted Tribe Club fund on March 1, 2008. Since 1980, he has been a donor to Athletics for 20 years and his lifetime cumulative giving to Athletics is $40,000.
- Annual Giving: $4,000 x 3 = 12,000
- Cumulative Giving: $40,000 x .25 = 10,000
- Years Giving: 20 x 350 = 7,000
- Total Loyalty Points 29,000
Example B: Mary Wren gave $1,000 designated to the Women’s Soccer Fund on September 15, 2007, and $1,000 to the Martha E. Barksdale Endowment for women’s scholarships on June 30, 2008. Mary has donated $1,000 to each of these two funds for ten of the last 20 years.
- Annual Giving: $2,000 x 3 = 6,000
- Cumulative Giving: $20,000 x .25 = 5,000
- Years Giving: 10 x 350 = 3,500
- Total Loyalty Points 14,500
Note: At this time, there is no penalty in Years-Given points for not giving in consecutive years.
Example C: William Botetourt, a local businessman, donated his Nags Head vacation home for one week to the Lord Botetourt (no relation) Auction in 2008. The vacation home rents for $3,500 a week during the peak season. William also donated $1,000 in meals from his restaurant to the men’s basketball team after their home games. This is the first year William has donated to the Tribe Club.
- Annual Giving: $4,500 x 3 = 13,500
- Lifetime Giving: $4,500 x .25 = 1,125
- Years Giving: 1 x 350 = 350
- Total Loyalty Points 14,975
Note: Gift-in-Kind credit to the Tribe Club is valued at the fair market value at the time of the donation, not the purchase price.
Example D: Mr. and Mrs. Williamsburg established an endowment for the football team on July 1, 1985, for $10,000. For the past 20 years, Mr. and Mrs. Williamsburg gave $2,500 on December 31 each year to their Williamsburg Football Endowment. On June 30, 2008, in an effort to increase their Loyalty Points ranking, Mr. and Mrs. Williamsburg gave $2,500 to the capital fund to build the Jimmye Laycock Football Complex.
- Annual Giving: $5,000 x 3 = 15,000
- Cumulative Giving: $62,500 x .25 = 15,625
- Years Giving: 21 x 350 = 7,350
- Total Loyalty Points 37,975
Note: Gifts made only to an endowment and/or capital fund still qualify a donor for Loyalty Point status.
Example E: Mrs. Mary Jones College '91 cumulatively has donated $1,000 since 1997, and she has given every year for 11 years. This fiscal year she gives $250 to Women’s Basketball. Mr. William College '90, her lucky husband, has donated $1,500 cumulatively since 1996, but he has only given in four of the last 12 years. This year he gives $250 to Baseball.
- Annual Giving: ($250 + $250) x 3 = 1,500
- Cumulative Giving: ($11,250 + $1,750)x .25= 3,250
- Years Giving: 13 x 350 = 4,550
- Total Loyalty Points 9,300
Note: Loyalty Points are based on household giving and are calculated on joint giving even if the gifts are only credited to one spouse. William gave first in 1995 and Mary had consistent giving since 1997, so as a household the College’s receive credit for 13 years (1996-2008) of giving.
